Fanart: KuroFai Steampunk

Okay, redesign for Kurogane's steampunk arm -- a very small, surprisingly strong steam engine is now hidden inside his arm. I didn't even know so small steam engines existed, until I needed one! *g* Also the three holes on his upper arms are spitting steam, if he's working hard. Of course, he's always working hard, so lots of steam down there.

Because I'm shameless, I nudged Uakari to write fic for this -- and she did!! *dies happily* It's called Steam and right over at her journal! Go read it, Uakari's writing is to the point and beautiful, the story has a well spun plotline and it's even going to be multi-chaptered...!!
(Uakari, I don't know how I deserved this much goodness, thank you so much!! TT__TT)

I love Kurogane's new arm (the holes for steam release are full of win - I want to see them pumping!!), but I have to say Fai's hair is my favorite part about this. This is incredibly sexy and quite possibly my new favorite (okay, second favorite - nothing is ever going to top Doumeki the big pink pony) of your art works.
You did this just to temp me, didn't you?? XD

Date: 2011-02-16 04:17 am (UTC)The strap that connects Kurogane's arm is wonderful. Only because it's like "Oh, the arm doesn't attach itself, there's a strap."
Er. I really, like it. It's wonderful, and I'm completely jealous of you.

Date: 2011-02-16 06:30 am (UTC)Thank you for doing them right! And god, do I ever love your coloring in this piece. It's soft and cross-hatchy and nnnnng. Not to mention you steam-punked them all up and in-character. I could actually see those two like this as opposed to simply dropping by some world for a quick trip. :)

Date: 2011-02-16 03:51 pm (UTC)I actually really love AUs, in the sense of them truly living in another world and getting involved with a different culture... so, yeah, I'm glad I got the dreads right! XD

Date: 2011-02-16 08:49 am (UTC)...There are certainly no complaints about Kurogane's pretty physique and arm re-design either, though. Nope. X3

Date: 2011-02-16 04:33 pm (UTC)admit it, you knew the puns were comingjust adds to that. (...And I never knew about the beads before today. Dammit, stop adding to my kinks.)Out of curiosity - because I went back and looked at your last entry when I finally picked up this was an arm re-design - what do you see the (human) trio as doing/being in this little AU of yours?
And the other picture - cowboys on dinosaurs. XDno subject
Date: 2011-02-16 06:00 pm (UTC)Mostly I'm coming up with stories on how things developed after the end of the series - that they're searching for something defying death and space time still doesn't sit right with me, but I'm constantly searching for conclusions to fill that hole. Mostly I just enjoy sending them some crazy place, feeling my way through what would actually get them closer to a satisfying end for their quest. To tell the truth, I didn't think to closely about the dinosaur... (I was a big fan of the Dinotopia picture book as a kid and still love Indiana Jones.)
Basically, the concept went a bit like this: They've probably landed themselves in some kind of lost world, in which some of the smaller and more harmless dinosaurs are being held as cattle by human, and gotten taken in by helpful and kind explorers far out in the jungle, who were researching some of the more dangerous species. When they wanted to explore a mountain cavern/waterfall/vulcano for a strange source of power that could help them ripping a hole into the dimensions to bring Syaoran's parents back, they crashed their own biplane in a mangroove nearby due to Fai flying too low to watch the dinosaurs below... bad thing, they crashed directly into the T-Rex's nest. Even Kurogane had some problems subduing the mother dinosaur it without hurting it, until the kind explorer dropped a giant harness out of another biplane. So, now they're riding the dinosaur up to the mountain cavern. Or something like that. *laughs*
Hum, the steampunk-verse got a bit out of hand, as it opens up to a completely AU without clear attachments to canon... Actually Uakari took it upon herself to write something for Kurogane and Fai in this universe! *bouncing* Completely unrelated to what Uakari comes up with, what I like the most about steampunk is the unadored do-it-yourself mentality. While drawing, I was envisioning them as a trio leading a workshop (Syaoran doing the most complicated and delicate work, Fai handling customers and finances (latter to the exasperation of everyone), Kurogane moving heavy stuff around and building strange and bulky vehicles that no one believes to work until they start moving). Civil war has shaken the world up in the recent past and it has brought the three of them together, different as their backgrounds may be. But let's not go into detail with that, Uakari put more energy into making up a story for it, than I did. XD

Date: 2011-02-16 07:05 pm (UTC)I left Sakura out of the story, (I'm clearly getting too used to the after-series effect,) so Syaoran had to be the deft one... (No way Fai or Kurogane could play that part. They're using their talents to wreck havoc, as usual.) ...you know that I'm now looking forward to clutzy Syaoran? I see him stumbling to aid his princess already. XD

Date: 2011-02-17 02:38 am (UTC)(Oh my, your reply actually just scared the hell out of me... I got this e-mail programm that makes a sound to alert me, when mail arrives. Everything was dead quiet, middle of the night, and I had sat down to write this very suspenseful scene, in which the monster is going to appear every second -- and I know what it's going to do, and that it will happen fast, I'm the writer after all -- and then the e-mail thing goes blip and I almost fall out of my chair, I'm so scared... XDD Now I have this really strong urge to look over my shoulder... XD)
