#1 Never Seen A Bluer Sky

never seen a bluer sky

When they headed out for the restaurant, the skies had been clear; it was somewhat of a surprise then, upon leaving some hours later, buzzing on good food and good company, to find thick grey clouds as far as the eye could see.

"I didn't bring an umbrella," Yuui said with some dismay, staring up at the heavens. "Should we get a taxi home?"

"Getting wet never hurt anybody," Fai replied cheerfully. "Come on! If we hurry we can be home and warm~!"

Normally Yuui would have protested, but well, it was a Friday night and he had had several glasses of very good wine by then, and when Fai leaped onto the pavement and flashed him a grin, he couldn't say no.

They made it all of a block before the thunder rolled, a block of lurching into each other, giggly and warm and well-fed, happy and dizzy with each other's presence. Fai usually held his alcohol better than Yuui, but he had drunk rather more than Yuui had, the level in the bottle slipping gradually downward until the waiter had bought another one and then that had been emptied too, Fai's smile growing wider and sloppier with each glass, and Yuui had looked at him and thought,  mine . It had been a good thought, smug and true.

When the first fat drop of rain hit Yuui's face he had an arm around Fai's waist, his twin pressed into him laughing as he related an anecdote from earlier that day - "So then Kuro-tan just  had  to prove me wrong, and well, you heard what happened to the gym. The best part is - oh!"

"We're going to get soaked," Yuui said, and laughed happily. "It's a good thing we brought our coats."

"But you don't have a hood," Fai said, stopping and looking at him, his shorter hair beginning to curl slightly, and Yuui laughed and bumped their foreheads together, noses brushing. An eskimo kiss, safe enough in public.

"I'll live," he said, and Fai pouted at him. His hands flew to the buttons on his windbreaker, and Yuui grinned at him.

"Save it for home, Fai," he said teasingly. "Then I'll take mine off too!"

" No,  silly," Fai retorted, and shrugged his coat off, stepping into the lee of Yuui's body. Yuui could feel the heat of him through all the layers of clothing he was wearing, and it took his breath away; Fai flipped the coat up and over them, a protective barrier against the rain. "There. See?"

He was grinning, and the rain was pouring onto the coat's surface, inches from Yuui's ears, and the streets were grey and wet and empty and so was the world, storm clouds and tarmac and concrete... but his eyes, their eyes, were as blue as ever and Yuui... Yuui leaned over those last few inches and kissed him, slowly, in the rain. His lips were cold and wet and he tasted of salt and rainwater and everything Yuui loved.

He licked his lips as he drew back, and Fai was smiling, his teeth brilliantly white, brighter than his shirt, and his eyes were sparking with amusement and his cheeks were pink and warm despite the rain. Yuui found himself mimicing his brother's expression, happy and tipsy. He didn't care at all about the wet and cold.

Who needed good weather, with eyes like that?
