There were some things that Dr. Flowright, while he wouldn’t call himself afraid, had always been very nervous about. He was a bit speechless when those things were progressing faster than he had expected. Much faster. The surgery had left both of them shaken and they had been laughing mirthlessly about how they both always felt the need to wash after a mess like that, and even though they didn’t come in touch with the blood. And then, somehow, they had looked at each other, hopeless and a bit lost, and Kurogane had bowed down to kiss him.

In the middle of the changing room, behind the lockers that neatly cut the room in two parts.

And all Fai could do was claw at his shoulders with a desperate, little noise and pull him close. His back banged against the metallic lockers and they both stopped in their movements, breathing hard. A worried voice rang out from behind the lockers.

“Dr. Flowright? Are you okay?”

“Just fine, I only banged my knee!” Fai called back, though the usual cheer to his voice was a bit off. They stared at each other. Kurogane’s glasses had somehow slipped down to the tip of his nose, and he cursed colorfully and fumbled to put them into place. The color was high in his cheeks and his eyes flickered anywhere but to Fai’s face in embarrassment.

It was hard to explain, but in that moment, in the air that smelled of disinfectant, hospital clothes and slightly of blood and feces, and in the cold light of the fluorescent tubes, he felt the thick warmth of affection spreading in his chest. Kurogane’s body under his fingers felt heavy and made his palms tingle and he felt light-headed, and the slight scent of the other man’s sweat made his stomach flutter.

Suddenly, he couldn’t deny anymore that, more than anything else, he wanted to fuck Doctor Suwa senseless. It was just his luck that he’d never really gotten a hang of a) how to rein these feelings in, or b) how to proceed in case he really didn’t want to rein them in. He knew, however, that he really needed a better place to figure this out.

This was one of the times, when a bit of gathered experience might have paid off, but Fai had been a quiet, hard-working medicine student, a very dedicated doctor, and at core a social idiot. Just like Kurogane, from all that he could tell.

“You’re…  free tonight, aren’t you,” Fai stated carefully. He realized he knew Dr. Kurogane Suwa’s complete schedule just from checking it every time he looked at his own. They had been bickering and teasing  each other for a few months, without either of them making a move to progress things. Hell, Fai hadn’t even realized that he had been  falling for the other man, all this time.

Kurogane had taken to stare at him, and then grunt in admission.

“I cook well,” Fai offered and then added with a sly grin, “and I know Kuro-puppy is always hungry.”

“Stop with the stupid nicknames,” Kurogane grumped and pulled back, his ears turning an interesting shade of pink. He stared off into the distance and Fai’s resolve to ask more directly crumbled fast.

“Dr. Flowright,” Fai jumped at the voice, “they just said there is a call for you at the front!” A young, male nurse turned the corner to inform him and stare a bit at the scene with the two flustered doctors. Kurogane had taken to glaring at the boy and stripping out of the blue surgery clothes.

“Thank you, I’ll be right there!” Fai called out cheerily and waited until the kid was off with a nod. Neither he nor Kurogane said a word. He was nervous enough that his hands were actually shaking when he unfastened the cord of the wide pants that he wore over the black, skinny jeans.

“So,” he cleared his throat and tried again. “I guess I’ll be off.” He almost successfully fled the scene until Kurogane grabbed his arm. Fai met his red, flustered glare and his heart pounded way too loud in his ears. Kurogane gaped at him for a moment, looking so much like a goldfish that Fai couldn’t help but give a chuckle.

What?” the man barked.

“Nothing at all,” Fai tried to get his grin under control. “You wanted to say something?”

“I don’t have your address,” Kurogane blurted out.

They stared at each other for another second and Fai was sure that they were very close to fucking each other senseless, without dinner, right here.

Dr. Fai Flowright to the reception, please, Dr. Fai Flowright-

Some things weren’t as hard as they looked, Fai realized, as he scribbled his address in black felt-pen on the back of Kurogane’s forearm, and before running off to tell his brother on the phone that he really needed the flat to himself, tonight. And, with a heady kind of glee and a healthy dose of nervousness, he started to believe that some things would work out just fine.
