I'm inclined to agree with the others: this isn't just a fic, it's a work of art.
It starts out pretty mild, in terms of the angst, but then it really builds as the story goes on into a landslide of frenzied desperation on Fai's part. The part towards the end where Kurogane is desperately trying to find Fai before it's too late is heart-poundingly dramatic. (It also really invoked the old ghost story/urban legend of the hitch-hiking ghost in a delightful way; was that deliberate? That bit with contacting the family member, only to have them exclaim "But he/she died years ago!")
Poor Kurogane, he was trying to help and support Fai only to find out that he was actually encouraging him on his way to self destruction. It was a very neat twist that sets things back on itself. And then the ending was heart-rendingly painful, but in a clean and refreshing way. So you should stop being all insecure; this turned out fantastic.
