(I know that I added the steam just for the sweaty, sticky effect, at least. *g*)
Mostly I'm coming up with stories on how things developed after the end of the series - that they're searching for something defying death and space time still doesn't sit right with me, but I'm constantly searching for conclusions to fill that hole. Mostly I just enjoy sending them some crazy place, feeling my way through what would actually get them closer to a satisfying end for their quest. To tell the truth, I didn't think to closely about the dinosaur... (I was a big fan of the Dinotopia picture book as a kid and still love Indiana Jones.)
Basically, the concept went a bit like this: They've probably landed themselves in some kind of lost world, in which some of the smaller and more harmless dinosaurs are being held as cattle by human, and gotten taken in by helpful and kind explorers far out in the jungle, who were researching some of the more dangerous species. When they wanted to explore a mountain cavern/waterfall/vulcano for a strange source of power that could help them ripping a hole into the dimensions to bring Syaoran's parents back, they crashed their own biplane in a mangroove nearby due to Fai flying too low to watch the dinosaurs below... bad thing, they crashed directly into the T-Rex's nest. Even Kurogane had some problems subduing the mother dinosaur it without hurting it, until the kind explorer dropped a giant harness out of another biplane. So, now they're riding the dinosaur up to the mountain cavern. Or something like that. *laughs*
Hum, the steampunk-verse got a bit out of hand, as it opens up to a completely AU without clear attachments to canon... Actually Uakari took it upon herself to write something for Kurogane and Fai in this universe! *bouncing* Completely unrelated to what Uakari comes up with, what I like the most about steampunk is the unadored do-it-yourself mentality. While drawing, I was envisioning them as a trio leading a workshop (Syaoran doing the most complicated and delicate work, Fai handling customers and finances (latter to the exasperation of everyone), Kurogane moving heavy stuff around and building strange and bulky vehicles that no one believes to work until they start moving). Civil war has shaken the world up in the recent past and it has brought the three of them together, different as their backgrounds may be. But let's not go into detail with that, Uakari put more energy into making up a story for it, than I did. XD
